Vector Shift — Saga Timeline Clarification: Homeworld, Hive and Earth#

This clarifies and extends the Saga Structure Correction. Where this record and the earlier Saga Timeline Update differ, this record takes precedence.

Briana's words#

Colonial wars → alien contact → unification → expansion and golden age → colonial fracture → Varkhesh invasion of the homeworld. We would revise the earlier Earth references accordingly. The emotional centre becomes their ancestral home: somewhere the reader comes to care about through its people, places, and history.

Our protagonists know their own world as home. Then intelligence identifies the Varkhesh Hive's seat—and connects it to Earth. What seemed like an external threat becomes entangled with humanity's history. I'd preserve one crucial mystery: how Earth became the Hive's home. Occupation, transformation, inheritance—those possibilities mean very different things. Their presence there alone wouldn't establish their origin. And their doctrine suddenly becomes more disturbing. Their insistence that organic beings must advance into metals and light could have roots in something that happened on Earth. That gives intelligence gathering two stakes: learning how to survive the Varkhesh, and uncovering what happened to Earth that was.

Briana: "We would revise the earlier Earth references accordingly." The earlier timeline's mentions of Earth, such as Earth's countries and colonies uniting, Earth's empire, and the defence of Earth, are to be revised.

3. The emotional centre#

The emotional centre is "their ancestral home: somewhere the reader comes to care about through its people, places, and history". Claude's reading, to confirm with Briana: this is Kethra, the protagonists' home. It is the homeworld the Varkhesh invade in the final era.

4. The discovery#

• The protagonists know their own world as home.
• In the final era, intelligence identifies the Hive's seat and connects it to Earth.
• What seemed an external threat becomes entangled with humanity's own history.

5. The protected mystery#

How Earth became the Hive's home is deliberately left unresolved. Briana names three possibilities, each meaning something very different:

• occupation;
• transformation;
• inheritance.

Their presence on Earth does not establish where they originated.

Rule for all writers and AI actors: do not resolve, imply a resolution to, or rule out any of these possibilities without Briana's decision.

6. Varkhesh doctrine: a new element#

The Varkhesh insist that organic beings must advance into metals and light. This doctrine "could have roots in something that happened on Earth".

This sits alongside the established doctrine in the Varkhesh origin notes:

• life that is not Varkhesh is to be treated as cattle;
• humans are an "organic virus".

1. Learning how to survive the Varkhesh.
2. Uncovering what happened to Earth.

What this settles among earlier open questions#

• "How the Varkhesh came to hold Earth" (raised in the Saga Structure Correction) is now a protected mystery, not an open design question. Claude's earlier suggestion, that Earth was already empty when they came, is withdrawn, because it would resolve the mystery.
• Why the Founders left, and what they knew, remains open. It must not be answered in a way that settles the protected mystery.

A note on terms#

Briana wrote "Earth that was" in passing. The approved mythic name remains Earth-of-the-songs, recorded in the Earth heritage phrase decision. This note records the usage. It does not change the name.
