The mythic name for humanity's lost origin world is Earth-of-the-songs.

This replaces the phrase "Earth that was" recorded in the Earth heritage decision. That decision is otherwise unchanged. Humanity descends from Earth, no one knows where Earth is, and Earth survives only as myth.

Briana asked for alternatives to "Earth that was", which is also the term used in Firefly. From the list Claude offered, she chose "Earth-of-the-songs".

What the phrase carries#

Implication: the name says Earth is remembered mainly through songs. That points to an oral tradition that outlived the written records of the crossing.

Proposals (not canon until approved):

• The Greek and Norse star names may have come down through those songs.
• The capital and the frontier may sing different songs of Earth, or the same songs with different words.
• Singers, song-keepers or a song canon could form a cultural institution, perhaps a contested one.

Guidance for AI actors#

• Use Earth-of-the-songs as the common name for Earth. Characters may shorten it in casual speech. Those short forms are not yet defined.
• No character knows where Earth is, and no character can prove it existed.
