Briana's words#

1 - Your recommendation

She was answering the first item on the 19 September list of questions still open for her: "Mending Ban or Mending Accord? The spine and Chapter I say 'Ban'; every other file says 'Accord', a treaty of AL 2163."

The recommendation she accepted: "keep both. 'The Mending Accord' would be the treaty's formal name, and 'the Mending Ban' what people call the ban it sets. That means changing one line in the spine and nothing else."

What is now canon#

  • The Mending Accord (AL 2163) is the formal name of the treaty that bans heritable changes to the human genome.
  • The Mending Ban is the everyday name for the ban it sets.

Both names are correct. A character may use either one; officials, lawyers and documents tend to say "the Accord".

Files updated to match#

  • The spine (Kethra Almanac/00): a new row in the canon table, and its line on the ban now gives both names.
  • The Living Worlds Movement almanac, Part 1 (Kethra Almanac/56): its note flagging the two names now says the point is settled.
  • The site: the question is removed from "Still open for Briana".

Chapter I says "the Mending Ban"; Chapter II and the country almanacs say "the Mending Accord". Neither needed changing, because both names are now correct.
